An endoscopy procedure room typically has an average of 35 wires, cords, or tubing, the majority of which are dangerously exposed above the floor. These wires cause personnel to trip, slip, and fall, sometimes resulting in serious injuries. In addition to causing injuries, wire-related accidents also break operating room sterility, resulting in disrupted or canceled surgical procedures.

Previous attempts to remediate the problem have been imperfect: bundling wires together to reduce the number of loose, independent wires, covering exposed wires on the floor with a nonslip heavy mat, or running wires from ceiling outlets to equipment high above ground. The idea of a wireless camera solution came to the Lazurite team after an operating room accident: a nurse tripped over cables and fell, shattering her wrist. It was a lightbulb moment for Lazurite: What if the hazardous wires could be removed altogether? 
Years of engineering and technical challenges followed.

Delve provided Lazurite with expertise in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, human factors engineering, and production support.
Delve took the lead in the ArthroFree’s electrical engineering, solving multiple technical and electronic problems, including designing a sterilizable battery that would deliver dependably long battery life and inventing a totally new light source bright enough to mitigate the device’s somewhat inefficient lenses. 
Delve also solved a big concern with using a wireless camera system in an operating room environment: signal speed, stability, and security. A camera that is being used to visualize the inside of the patient’s body during surgery must capture and transmit images with speed and accuracy at the absolute limit of physics. 
To accomplish this wirelessly, the ArthroFree leverages a new, ultra-wide band model for sending signals that is faster and more secure than Wi-Fi. Thanks to over four years of engineering development, the ArthroFree delivers images that are as clear and accurate as the images from any wired camera. 
Finally, the Delve team tackled the ArthroFree’s biggest design problem: packaging all its functionality into a compact, lightweight device that would be easy to hold and operate, and that surgeons would enjoy using.

Extensive user research and human factors testing were key to developing a device that delighted surgeons, nurses, and other operating room staff: 
“I haven’t stopped thinking about how much easier it was to use your device. Why have I been doing it this other, terrible way for a decade?” “It makes what we do easier because we are no longer constrained to a six-foot distance away from equipment by a light cable or a power cable. We don’t have to be concerned with reorienting a patient or moving a piece of equipment during surgery.” “I’m about to go to Brazil with Doctors Without Borders. How soon can I have this device? Because I think I can just hook it up to a monitor and run it out the back of a truck.”

With the ArthroFree, a dangerous operating room distraction has finally been eliminated. 
The ArthroFree runs on batteries, features built-in, non-LED lighting, and sends video wirelessly to a monitor on the instrumentation rack.&nbsp;It offers several significant benefits to surgeons and operating room staff: <ul><li>Uninterrupted focus.
