The digital interface of Sea Machines' AI-guided marine navigation system, designed by Delve, has received 2024 Silver Muse Design Awards for product design in two separate categories:<a href="https://design.museaward.com/winner-info.php?id=21800" target="_blank">&nbsp;industrial products</a> and <a href="https://design.museaward.com/winner-info.php?id=21799" target="_blank">computer and information technology. </a> <a href="https://design.museaward.com/winner-info.php?id=21799" target="_blank"></a>Highlighting both aesthetics and functionality, the international MUSE Design Awards recognize excellence in design and innovation across a variety of disciplines, including product design. Winners are selected for design that shifts paradigms.

Gone are the days when sea captains&nbsp;had to continually scan the horizon for looming icebergs. Sea Machines, a pioneer in autonomous marine navigation, has developed an AI-guided marine navigation system. The revolutionary system, AI-ris, is a camera-based computer vision sensor that provides comprehensive situational awareness at sea. With the capability to optically detect, track, classify and geolocate surface targets, AI-ris offers mariners a new perspective of visualizing and tracking the environment. But in order to launch the new marine navigation system successfully, Sea Machines needed an equally innovative user interface for captains to use in monitoring AI-guided vessels. The interface would have to accomplish two important goals: <ul><li>Help&nbsp;establish trust that the computer is making prudent navigation decisions.</li></ul>
<ul></ul><ul></ul><ul><li>Enhance the captain’s ability to identify and respond to potential obstacles in the sea around them. </li></ul>
The design of the AI-ris interface succeeds because it enhances the captains’ vision and decision-making capability through augmented reality layers on a 360-degree on-board camera feed and navigation charts.

Sea Machines needed an interface to help establish trust that the computer was making prudent navigation decisions.

In addition, the interface simplifies vessel operation with an intuitive control interface, focused on the few common interventions a captain would make while underway.
Finally, the AI-ris interface takes accessibility design to another level. The interface is designed for marine multi-function displays in high glare and low visibility scenarios, while also considering the limitations of a touch interface on a rolling, choppy ship’s bridge.
